SpTp: Social Media Marketing

In our electronically mediated society, social media can take a bewildering array of forms, ranging from text messages to social network platforms. Social media are also relied on to perform a vast number of functions, including marketing and advertising. This course will introduce students to the underlying theories of media literacy and social media, demonstrate how social media tools and platforms can best be deployed for marketing purposes, and involve hands-on analysis and practice with social media tools. Emphasis will be placed on topicality and timeliness, with real-world examples "ripped from the headlines" offered up for discussion. Student must have taken BUS*202
