Concepts in Contemporary Physics with Laboratory

This course traces the evolving concepts of space, time, and motion through the main contributions of Galileo, Newton, Einstein, and Bohr. Topics include: sizing up the universe surrounding us, the kinematics and dynamics of motion, the great conservation laws, the unification of space-time and gravity in theories of special and general relativity, the physics of black-holes, and the quantum structure of matter. There will be laboratory sessions, class demonstrations, and exercises.
