Northern Renaissance Art

An exploration of art made in Northern Europe between the years 1300 and 1550. Topics covered will include: royal and imperial patronage; the influence of new devotional practices; shifts in the representation of the natural world; and the impact of the Reformation. Coursework will entail looking exercises, written assignments, essay-based exams, and regular discussion of readings. ART 200 recommended but not required. Prerequisite(s): ART 200
