FYS*101*24 Description

First-Year Seminar

Effective citizen leadership requires the ability to consider questions and issues from multiple perspectives with a thoughtful and critical eye. In this course we investigate the broad topic of scandal in modern life. We will approach topics of sex, lies, and power in several arenas including the political, scientific, celebrity, business, and social. In doing so we engage multiple disciplines from history, literature, science, sociology, and business to reflect on diverse perspectives and engage our critical thinking skills. The first-year course will introduce students to library research and information literacy; offer instruction on the writing process, rhetorical knowledge, and academic conventions; and include significant research, writing, revision, and presentation.
