SpTp: Austine and Aquinas
Introduction to Augustine of Hippo (354-430) and Thomas Aquinas
(1225-1274) as defining figures of Late Antiquity and the Middle
Ages. The first half of the course focuses on a complete reading
of Augustine's Confessions. The second half selects from
Aquinas's major works. Themes include faith and reason, God's
nature, the human person, final ends and redemption, free will,
virtue, happiness, and politics and war.
